PENEDA-GERÊS NATIONAL PARK
Located in the extreme northeast of Peneda-Gerês National Park, with an altitude above 1000 meters, the Mourela Plateau is dominated by typical mountain areas of heath lands, dotted by large rocky outcrops, peat bogs, small agricultural plots and small woods on the lowest areas. Here we can find unique conditions for the observation of some mountain species.
Surrounded by an agricultural mosaic, the villages of Pitões das Júnias and Tourém offer an extra touch of diversity for observation. The mountain rivers, lakes, peat bogs, among many other ecological niches, are just some of the diversity of existing habitats that we invite you to discover.
Common snipe (Gallinago gallinago), Hen Harrier (Circus cyaneus), Red-backed shrike (Lanius collurio), Western Bonelli's warbler (Phylloscopus bonelli), griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus)
